| Jan 17, 2008 | Membership | A Roll-Off Observatory Building Project approved by the membership at the General Meeting |
| Feb, 2008 | Council | Discuss motion for a possible addition of a 2nd roll-off observatory for more space - suggested at Jan 17 General Meeting. It was decided to wait until we see the utilization of the first building before going ahead with a second. |
| Feb, 2008 | Council | discuss motion for a possible addition of a SkyShed SkyPod - suggested at Jan 17 General Meeting. It was decided to wait until we see the utilization of the first building before going ahead with any additional building. |
| Feb, 2008 | Larry | investigate whether a powered roof motor is viable and at what cost, present to Council. Not a standard offering from SkyShed - would have to design and build it ourselves. |
| Feb, 2008 | Council Site Director Observing Group Chair NOVA Director | decide on which direction the roof should roll off - decision was to roll off to the North |
| Feb, 2008 | Council Site Director Observing Group Chair NOVA Director | approve final location on the site - decision was immediately South of the Sid Lee building accessible from the South door of the Sid Lee building. At this time a comparison of a 10x14 and an 18x8 building was made. The 18x8 design offers better space utilization. |
| Apr, 2008 | Council Site Director Observing Group Chair NOVA Director | It was determined that a "kit" was too small, and that we could build a larger one at less cost than scaling up a commercial product to that size . |
| Jun, 2008 | Council | Larry reviewed the status of the roll-off building and showed the design he had developed and a scale model he built. Council approved the design. The model and plans were displayed at the Members BBQ in June. |
| Sep, 2008 | Council | Approved funding from the 50th anniversary approved funds for the sidewalk upgrade and the open-air pad |
| Oct, 2008 | Larry | After a delay in contracting a concrete company (due to the building boom in Calgary), construction began with the removal of the old stepping-stone sidewalks, trenching for electrical, and forming and pouring the new sidewalks and two 18x8 foot concrete pads |
| Oct/Nov, 2008 | Larry and Jim Fyke | Building construction began atop the concrete pad and framing and sheeting was completed up to the roofline in time for New Members' Night |
| Nov 2008 | Larry | Snow! Construction virtually halted due to the longest, coldest, snowiest Winter and Spring in years, with no major chinooks. A temporary roof was constructed from 2x4s and plastic to protect the building at the first snowfall in November. It remained in place until Summer 2009! |
| Apr 2009 | Larry | With the snow finally gone (except the snowfalls in April, May and June!) construction resumed with the application of the vinyl siding, followed by the mechanisms to open and close the roof. |
| May 2009 | Larry | It was determined that the only viable roof that could span 18 feet without internal support, and take the anticipated snow load would be a curved, sloped metal infrastructure. Plans were drawn up and a pipe welder was contracted. The Roll-Off with its powered temporary roof was used at the May NOVA and OG meetings. |
| Jun 2009 | Larry | The newly fabricated metal roof was installed with the help of a large crane. |
